What is changing regarding Aurora Solar and Sales Taxes?
Beginning on June 15th 2023, customers will see a sales tax charge similar to most other purchases made by individuals and businesses. This additional charge will be added to your next bill automatically.
Why is this happening now?
As Aurora Solar has grown as a company, we have crossed certain thresholds that require us to charge customers sales taxes. In order to remain compliant with business laws and best practices, we must begin charging this sales tax now.
How much will I be charged? How much will this increase my spend?
The amount of sales tax applied to your bill is determined by state and local laws. We will ensure that the amount of taxes taken will be the amount charged in your jurisdiction.
Is this just a price hike? Are you just raising my price for your service?
No. Paying sales taxes is a legally required part of doing business and as our company has grown, we are obligated to start collecting this tax. The amount collected will always be the amount based on local laws and the money collected will be paid to the government and not as a profit for Aurora Solar.
What do I need to do to prepare for this?
Nothing. Our goal is to make this as simple as possible for our customers. We will be determining the necessary amount of sales tax to collect and will add it to your future payments. You may want to update your account address in the Aurora Solar app to ensure that we are collecting based on your accurate jurisdiction.
I have a Multi-Year Contract. How will this affect me?
Tax should be reflected on your next invoice (as long as it is after the “Go Live” date, tentatively set at June 15, 2023). You will NOT be charged sales tax on your prior invoices, but only on your prospective ones.
To whom should I address my concerns?
As with all account-related issues, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager, who will be able to explain these changes in further detail and will be able to hear and pass along any feedback you have.
