Sales Mode lets sales reps quickly configure and price battery storage alongside a solar design. Select a battery, set the quantity, click Simulate, and see self-sufficiency %, bill impact, and backup potential — all backed by the same simulations that run in Design Mode.

Before you begin
Access. Sales Mode storage begins rolling out on August 17, 2026 and reaches tenants in waves. If you don't see the updated storage interface, your tenant may not have been reached yet — contact support or your account manager.
Existing projects. Designs created before your tenant was enabled continue to use the legacy Sales Mode storage experience. New designs use the updated experience. Legacy designs will be migrated in a future update.
Component pricing. Storage component prices are captured when the first component of that type is added to a project and don't update as the design changes. Make sure your admin has set storage component prices in the component database before designing. (See this Help Center article for how to implement Flat Storage Pricing)
Place panels before storage. Running AutoDesigner clears storage that was added before panel placement. This applies to Maxfit and Maxfit + Energy Magic. Fill Roof Face does not clear storage. If you're using AutoDesigner, place your panels first, then add storage.
How to add storage in Sales Mode
- Open a project in Sales Mode.
- Click the battery icon in the top navigation bar to open the Storage page.
- Select a battery from the dropdown.
- Set the quantity or, for battery-integrated hybrid inverters like Powerwall 3, add expansion units (up to 3 per base unit).
- Click Simulate to see real-time self-sufficiency %, estimated bill savings, and backup potential.
Note: Selecting a battery-integrated hybrid inverter such as Powerwall 3 replaces the existing system and re-runs AutoStringer using that inverter. If this would overwrite existing stringing, a confirmation modal appears first.
Backup and consumption settings
From the Storage page, you can set:
- Backup: turn backup on or off, and set the backup reserve — the percentage of capacity held for outage coverage
- Consumption schedule: Self-consumption or Energy Arbitrage
These settings apply to all storage components in the design.
Inverter and battery management
When you add storage in Sales Mode, batteries can attach to an inverter already on the design rather than creating a new one. Selecting an existing inverter, or a storage-only inverter, connects the battery without re-running AutoStringer. Selecting a new hybrid inverter will run AutoStringer.
Battery-integrated hybrid inverters (like Powerwall 3) are managed as a single component — the inverter follows its battery and cannot be edited separately. To change the inverter type or reconfigure storage, use "Clear storage" to remove all storage and rebuild.
Viewing complex designs in Sales Mode
Sales Mode is built for the most common storage configurations. Anything more complex is displayed as read-only with an explanatory banner — you can view and quote the full system, but edits must happen in Design Mode.
A configuration is considered complex if it includes:
- More than one battery type
- More than one inverter type
- More than one battery-integrated hybrid inverter, even of the same type (for example, two Powerwall 3 base units)
- A mix of AC, DC, and battery-integrated batteries
- Multiple battery stacks, or additional components between the batteries and their inverter
To simplify the design in Sales Mode, click "Clear storage" to remove all storage and configure a new setup.
Known limitations
- Cannot remove a single battery-integrated hybrid inverter. There's no way to remove an individual BIHI unit from the Sales Mode storage page. Use "Clear storage" (removes all storage) and rebuild.
- Multi-battery-type simulation results are approximate. When a design includes more than one battery type, the simulation aggregates total capacity rather than modeling each stack individually. Use a single battery type for precise simulation results.
- Storage isn't shown on single-line diagrams yet, though it does appear in Instant Plan Sets.
- Complex BIHI topologies with TPO financing (EnFin) are still being validated. Escalate these cases to support or your account manager rather than troubleshooting directly.
FAQs
Why is my storage showing as read-only in Sales Mode?
The design likely includes a complex topology built in Design Mode. Complex configurations are view-only in Sales Mode by design. To make changes, open the design in Design Mode — or click "Clear storage" to remove all storage and configure a simpler setup in Sales Mode.
Why did my battery disappear after running AutoDesigner?
AutoDesigner clears storage that was added before panel placement. Place your panels first, then add storage — or use Fill Roof Face, which does not clear storage.
Why are my storage prices showing as zero?
Component prices are captured when the first component of that type is added to a project. If prices weren't set before designing, they may show as zero. Have your admin set prices in the component database, then start a new design. See this article for how to use Flat Storage Pricing.
Can I see self-sufficiency and bill savings in Sales Mode?
Yes. After selecting a battery and clicking Simulate, Sales Mode shows real-time self-sufficiency %, estimated bill savings, and backup potential.
What's the difference between Sales Mode and Design Mode storage?
Sales Mode is optimized for common configurations and fast quoting. Design Mode supports more complex topologies as well — multi-stack, multi-inverter, and custom configurations. Both use the same simulations and share design data, so what's sold stays aligned with what gets designed and installed.
