Property lines define the boundaries of a site within your Aurora project. These boundaries are used for layout constraints, Instant Plan Sets, and various permitting-related outputs. In most cases, Property Line data is automatically loaded from geospatial data sources, but you also have the ability to edit or redraw these lines when needed.
This article explains what property lines are, how to view and modify them, and when to redraw or reset them.

Overview
Property lines in Aurora represent the parcel boundaries of a site. They define the official perimeter of the property as registered with the local government or AHJ. These boundaries:
- Inform AI tools like SmartRoof.
- Are required for generating valid Instant Plan Sets (IPS), where the site map and plan views depend on correct parcel data.
Property lines are visualized as a white polygon in Design Mode canvas and are managed per design (not per project).
Viewing and Adjusting Property Lines
To view or reposition a property line:
- Go to Design Mode
- Click on View Settings in the upper toolbar and enable Property Lines.
- Select the white Property Line outline to inspect or interact with it.
- In the inspector, click Move to reposition the line.
- Use the Reset to default button to revert changes if needed.
Note: The “Move” tool allows for basic X/Y offsetting. Use redraw tools if the shape is fundamentally incorrect.
Redrawing Property Lines
If the default Property Line is missing, outdated, or significantly inaccurate, you can now redraw the entire boundary.
To redraw:
- With Property Lines enabled, select the line and click Redraw Manually.
-
Use the drawing tools to:
- Create a new polygon from scratch
- Adjust existing vertices
- Ensure your shape forms a closed polygon to and click back on your starting point or press the Enter key to keep it.
Redrawn lines will save with the current design and will persist if the design is duplicated.
When to redraw a Property Line
Use redraw when:
- The imported parcel cuts across buildings, trees, or neighboring lots.
- You’re working with attached housing (e.g., rowhouses, duplexes).
Avoid redrawing if the existing parcel only needs minor alignment - in those cases, use the Move tool.
If no default property line exists
You can still define a custom Property Line if no default line exists.
- Navigate to the Site tab
- Go to Components -> Draw Property Line
-
Use the drawing tools as outlined above to draw a new Property Line
