Overview
Heat Pump Modeling lets you add a heat pump directly to your Aurora design and show your customer exactly how it changes their home's energy profile and bills. From there, model solar, storage, and heat pumps together in one proposal/design, so your customer sees the complete value of electrifying their home.
Before you begin
- Heat Pump Modeling is only available for enabled customers. Contact support to request access.
- To show accurate bill savings, enter the customer's current heating details (fuel type and annual usage) in the Project Details page in Sales Mode or Energy Usage page from the Project Overview
How to model heat pumps in Design Mode
- Open your project in Design Mode.
- Click on the Home Electrification button within the System toolbar
- Select add items and then click on the heat pump option (will only appear if enabled for your account).
- Configure the heat pump in the inspector panel. Choose a model from the catalog. Each model includes its own manufacturer performance data.
- Run the simulation. Review the load visualization. Aurora shows a before-and-after view of the home's energy profile, so you can see how the heat pump changes electricity usage across the year.
How to model heat pumps in Sales Mode
- Open your project design within Sales Mode.
- Click on the Home Electrification tab at the top of the screen.
- Select add items and then click on the heat pump option (will only appear if enabled for your account).
- From the inspector that appears at the right hand side of the screen, select the model from the database dropdown— each model includes its own manufacturer performance data.
- Review the load visualization. Aurora shows a before and after view of the home's energy profile, so you and the customer can see how the heat pump changes electricity usage across the year.
- Run the simulation. Aurora models the combined effect of solar, storage, and the heat pump in one pass, including fuel usage and bill savings.
- Present the proposal. The proposal shows the full electrification story: system production, the new consumption profile, and projected savings.
What you get
A single, integrated proposal and/or design covering the complete home energy system. Your customer sees how the heat pump affects their electricity usage, how solar and storage offsets it, and what the combined change means for their bills.
Limitations and FAQ
Which heat pump types are supported? Aurora has a database of common air-source monobloc heat pump models. Additional models and system types will be added over time. Please contact support with any requests.
Does Aurora model cooling? No. Heat Pump Modeling currently covers heating loads. Cooling demand is not included in the simulation at this time.
Does Aurora size the heat pump for me? No. Aurora models the energy and financial impact of the heat pump you select.
Where do the performance numbers come from? Each heat pump model in the catalog carries manufacturer performance data, including COP and SCOP values across different outdoor and water temperatures. Aurora applies the data for the specific model you select.
Can I adjust the home's target indoor temperature? Not currently. The simulation uses standard usage assumptions.
