Adders and discounts are line items that modify the final price of your system, separate from local, state, and federal incentives.
Adders add dollars to the base price. Discounts reduce the base price.
In this article, we’ll cover:
Creating a new adder or discount
To create a new adder or discount, navigate to Database > Adders and Discounts and click New in the top right corner.
-
Partner Assignment — Select whether the adder or discount is available for all Partners, individual Partners, a group of Partners, or none.
- Note: Partner Management must first be enabled in your Aurora account for this option to be available. For more information, see User Management: Partners.
- Name — The title of your adder or discount. This name appears on proposals, so keep it descriptive and customer-friendly.
- Type — Choose Adder or Discount. Adders increase the system price; discounts reduce it.
-
Rate — How the adder or discount amount is calculated. Choose from:
- Flat — A fixed dollar amount applied to the system price.
-
Percentage (of system cost) — A percentage of the system cost. When you select Percentage as the rate, you’ll also choose which cost basis to apply it to:
- Solar only cost — Calculates the percentage based on PV system cost only.
- Storage only cost — Calculates the percentage based on storage cost only. Use this to discount or mark up battery components independently of the PV system.
- Net system cost — Calculates the percentage based on the full system cost: PV + Storage + Energy Optimizers. Use this for whole-system discounts that include all electrification components. If no Energy Optimizers are included in the design, net system cost is calculated on PV + Storage only.
- Per Watt (of system size) — A dollar amount multiplied by the STC system size (in watts).
- Per Panel — A dollar amount multiplied by the number of panels in the system.
-
Per sq. ft. (of roof area) — A dollar amount multiplied by the specified roof surface area. Choose from:
- Only roof faces containing panels — The combined area of all roof faces with one or more modules
- Underneath arrays — Only the roof area directly under arrays
- All roof faces on buildings with solar panels — The total roof area of buildings with one or more modules
-
Amount — The dollar value applied when the adder or discount is triggered.
- Add Amount Variant — Set a different dollar amount for one or more specific Partners. Requires Partner Management to be enabled.
-
Allow amount to be edited — When enabled, reps can adjust the dollar amount while building a proposal. Turn this off for fixed-value adders that should never change.
- Example: Create a “Miscellaneous” adder and set this to On so reps can write in a dollar amount for unforeseen costs.
- Allow quantity to be edited — (Flat rate only) When enabled, reps can enter a quantity that multiplies the dollar amount. Useful for distance- or length-based costs.
-
Is homeowner facing — When enabled, the adder name is visible to the homeowner in Sales Mode, the Web Proposal, proposal summary PDF, Contract Manager, and via the Pricing page. When disabled, the adder still affects pricing and appears on the Pricing page and via the API, but is hidden from homeowner-facing surfaces.
- Show adder/discount total — When enabled, the total dollar amount is displayed alongside the adder or discount name.
- CBIs can be applied — Toggle on if this adder’s amount should be included when calculating cost-based incentives like the Federal ITC.
-
Conditions — Set rules for when the adder or discount is applied. See Automatic Adders & Discounts for details.
- Users pick when to apply — Sales Mode users can add or remove the adder or discount on any design.
- Automatically apply to all designs — Applied to all system designs; Sales Mode users cannot remove it.
-
Automatically apply based on conditions — Applied when the design meets specific criteria; Sales Mode users cannot remove it. Condition options include:
- Modules — Triggers if specific modules are used
- Inverters — Triggers if specific inverters are used
- System size — Triggers if system size (kW) is above, below, or within a range
- Roof pitch (in degrees) — Triggers based on roof pitch
- Storage operating mode — Triggers if battery operating mode is ‘Backup’ or ‘Self-consumption’
- Ground mount — Triggers if the system includes a ground mount
- Array count — Triggers if array count is above, below, or equal to a specified number
