For residential projects in Great Britain — England, Scotland, and Wales — you can select your customer’s current electricity tariff from EDF Energy, E.ON Next, or Octopus Energy, or use the Ofgem price cap for their region, instead of building a custom rate. Aurora uses the tariff’s import and export rates, including time-of-use export rates, to calculate the customer’s bills and savings.

Before you begin
- The project must be residential and located in England, Scotland, or Wales.
- Supplier tariffs are on automatically for UK accounts, so there’s nothing to set up.
- When you create the project, enter the full Property address, including the postcode. Aurora uses the postcode to show tariffs for the customer’s region.
Select a tariff for a project
- Open the project and click Energy usage.
- Under Grid electricity, click the Current rate dropdown. This is the customer’s tariff before solar.
- Select the customer’s tariff. Tariffs are grouped by supplier, and each name ends with the customer’s region, such as (London, C). The list shows up to 10 supplier tariffs, so if you don’t see the customer’s tariff, type its name in Search.
- Click the Future rate dropdown and select the tariff the customer will be on after solar is installed. It can be the same tariff or a different one.
The Current rate applies to all designs on the project. The Future rate applies to designs you create after you select it. To change the tariff on a design you’ve already created, see Change an existing design’s tariff.
Note: Your account’s custom rates appear in the same lists, marked Custom. In Design Mode, Current rate and Future rate are called Pre-solar rate and Post-solar rate.
Change an existing design’s tariff
Changing the Future rate on the project doesn’t update designs you’ve already created. Change the tariff on the design itself, in either Design Mode or Sales Mode. A change in one also shows in the other.
In Design Mode
- Open the design in Design Mode.
- Click Bill savings in the top bar.
- Under Post-solar rate, select the tariff.
Pre-solar rate is in the same panel and applies to all designs on the project.
In Sales Mode
- Open the design in Sales Mode.
- Click the Project details icon in the top bar.
- On the Energy usage tab, click Edit energy profile, then select the tariff under Future rate.
- Click Save profile.
View a tariff’s rates
- Click View rate next to Current rate or Future rate.
- Click the Import rate, Export rate, or Rate details tab.
Each tab shows:
- Import rate: what the customer pays for grid electricity, including the daily Fixed charge and the price per kWh. Time-of-use tariffs list a rate for each period, with a Weekday schedule and Weekend schedule that show when each period applies.
- Export rate: what the customer receives for electricity sent to the grid. Tariffs with a flat export rate show a Fixed export rate per kWh. Tariffs with time-of-use export show Schedule, a rate for each period, and an Export schedule.
- Rate details: details including the tariff’s Sector and Effective period.
Note: Schedules are hourly, so a tariff period that starts or ends on the half hour is approximated to whole hours.
FAQ
Are supplier tariffs available for all UK projects?
No. They’re available for projects in England, Scotland, and Wales. Projects in Northern Ireland show only your account’s custom rates.
My customer’s supplier isn’t listed. What should I use?
If your customer is on another supplier’s standard variable tariff, search for Ofgem Price Cap SVT, which uses Ofgem’s price cap rates for their region. Its export rate is £0.00 per kWh. For other tariffs, create a custom rate. See How do I add a custom residential utility rate?
How often are tariff prices updated?
Aurora updates tariff prices weekly, so a supplier’s price change can take up to a week to appear.
Can I edit a supplier tariff?
No. Supplier tariffs are view-only. To use different prices, create a custom rate instead. Custom rates can’t include time-of-use export rates.
Can I select a dynamic tariff, like Agile Octopus?
No. Dynamic tariffs aren’t included.
