The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is the UK’s quality standard for small-scale renewable energy installations. All MCS-certified installers are required to provide customers with a standardised energy performance estimate – along with specific legal disclaimers – before a contract is signed.
Aurora automatically generates both the performance estimate table and the required disclaimers as part of your proposals, so you can meet MCS requirements without manual calculations or additional paperwork.
In this article, we’ll cover:
- Adding the MCS table to your proposal
- Adding MCS disclaimers to your proposal
- Selecting the occupancy archetype
Only account admins are able to add these elements to proposal templates. For more information about proposal customization, see Sales Mode customization.
Adding the MCS table to your proposal
The MCS performance estimate table summarises your system’s projected annual output and self-consumption figures. Aurora populates this automatically based on your design.
Note: Only the MCS table in your proposal will show MCS-calculated values. The rest of the proposal will show values calculated by Aurora’s proprietary algorithms. This will be changed at a later date.
To add the MCS table to a proposal template:
- Navigate to Database > Proposal templates
- Select the proposal template you’d like to customise, then click Edit
- Under Blocks, find the MCS table under “Summary line items”
- Drag and drop the MCS table onto your template
- Click Save
The table will include the following sections:
- Section A – Solar PV installation data (system size, orientation, inclination, postcode)
- Section B – Performance calculations (estimated annual output)
- Section C – Estimated self-consumption without battery storage
- Section D – Estimated self-consumption with battery storage (only shown when an EESS is included in the design)
- Section E – Additional benefits from PV and storage (only shown when an EESS is included in the design)
Adding MSC disclaimers to your proposal
MCS requires specific disclaimer text to accompany the performance estimate. Adding these into your proposal template will automatically include them across all of your proposals.
Note: The shading disclaimer will only be shown if the design shading factor (SF) is less than 1. The EESS disclaimer will only be shown in battery storage is included on the design.
To add the MCS disclaimers to a proposal template:
- Navigate to Database > Proposal templates
- Select the proposal template you’d like to customise, then click Edit
- Under Blocks, find the MCS disclaimers under “Summary line items”
- Drag and drop the MCS disclaimers onto your template
- Click Save
Selecting the occupancy archetype
The occupancy archetype describes how the household is typically occupied on weekdays. It’s a key input for the self-consumption calculation and should be based on a conversation with the homeowner.
To select the occupancy archetype for a project:
- Click on Energy usage from the Project overview page
- Scroll down to Usage pattern and click the dropdown menu
- Under “Lifestyle based”, select the occupancy archetype
| Archetype | Description |
| Home all day | At least one occupant is home between 9am-5pm on weekdays |
| In half the day | Property is empty for half the day (either all morning or all afternoon on weekdays) |
| Out all day | Property is typically empty on weekdays |
| Occupancy unknown | Not known (for example, on a new build) |
Note: If occupancy is unknown, Aurora defaults to “In half the day”, as specified by MCS.
