Tell Aurora which appliances the home has today, such as electric heating or a pool, so its usage estimate reflects them. You can edit appliances on residential projects, from the project's Energy usage page or from Project details in Sales Mode.

Before you begin
- Use a residential project. Commercial projects don't have Edit existing appliances.
- To edit Lighting, Heating, Hot water, or Air conditioning, choose a Location based option in Usage pattern. Lifestyle patterns already include these, so with a pattern selected, the panel shows only Electric vehicle and Pool.
- Edit appliances records what the home has now. To model a change, such as adding a heat pump, use the Home electrification page, if your account has it. See Sales Mode Update: Project Details & Home Electrification Pages.
Editing appliances from the project
These steps start on the project's Energy usage page and end with your changes saved.
- Open the project and click Energy usage.
- Click Edit existing appliances.
- In Edit appliances, change the options you need. See Appliance options.
- Click Save. It becomes available after you change something.
The estimated months and charts update when you save. To close the panel without saving, click Cancel.
Editing appliances in Sales Mode
In Sales Mode, appliances are on the Energy usage tab of Project details. These steps take you from the toolbar to saved appliance changes.
- In the Sales Mode toolbar, open Project details.
- On the Energy usage tab, click Edit energy profile.
- If you change Usage pattern, click Save profile before you continue. The panel follows the saved pattern.
- Click Edit existing appliances.
- Change the options you need.
- Click Save.
Saving the panel applies your changes right away. Clicking Cancel on the profile afterward doesn't undo them.
Appliance options
Edit appliances has these settings:
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Lighting | Fluorescent, Incandescent, or LED |
| Heating | Gas/other, Electric, or Heat pump |
| Hot water | Gas/other or Electric |
| Air conditioning | On or off |
| Electric vehicle | On or off. When it's on, choose Make, Model, and Year, and enter Avg. daily miles. |
| Pool | On or off. When it's on, choose Pump speed (Single speed or Variable speed) and Shape (Rectangle or Round), and enter the pool's size in feet. |
When Electric vehicle or Pool is on, its label shows the estimated usage, such as Pool (248 kWh per month). The figure updates as you change the settings, before you save. For example, switching Pump speed to Variable speed lowers a pool's estimate. For a rectangular pool, enter Length, Width, and Depth.
How changes affect usage
How an appliance change shows up depends on what you entered:
- Some months entered: the months you entered stay the same, and Aurora recalculates the other months and the annual total.
- All 12 months entered: the monthly totals stay the same, and only the shape of usage across the day changes.
- Lifestyle pattern selected: Aurora keeps the hidden settings but doesn't use them, and they apply again if you switch back to a Location based option.
Because estimated usage changes, the customer's estimated bill changes too.
FAQ
How do I add a stove, AC unit, or water heater to my customer's usage?
Turn on Air conditioning, and set Hot water to the type of water heater the home has. Edit appliances doesn't have a stove option.
Why don't I see Heating or Air conditioning in Edit appliances?
A lifestyle pattern is selected in Usage pattern. To see them, choose a Location based option.
My customer's vehicle isn't in the Make list. What should I do?
Contact Aurora Support with the vehicle's make, model, and year, and we'll submit a request to add it. See How to contact Aurora support.
