The K2 Base integration sends your finished Aurora design to K2 Base, K2 Systems’ mounting system planning tool, so you can plan racking without redrawing your roof. Aurora opens K2 Base in a new tab with your project address and roof faces ready to import.

Before you begin
- You need a K2 Base account. If you aren’t signed in when K2 Base opens, you’ll see its sign-in page first. After you sign in, you can continue.
- Aurora needs to turn on the integration for your account. Aurora is rolling it out to accounts in Europe in stages, and no other setup is needed in Aurora. Reach out to your Account Manager or Support to request early access.
- Finish your roof model in Aurora before you send it, so K2 Base gets your final measurements.
Send your design to K2 Base
Once your design is complete in Aurora, you can open it in K2 Base directly from Design Mode. These steps take you from the Components menu to a new K2 Base project.
- Open your design in Design Mode.
- In the left panel, click System, then Components.
- Click Racking.
- In the Open racking integration window, select K2 Base under Racking manufacturer.
- Click Open in K2 Base.
K2 Base opens in a new tab on its CREATE PROJECT screen, with your project’s address filled in. Aurora sends your design as it was last saved when you click Open in K2 Base.
Import your roof faces in K2 Base
In K2 Base, you’ll create the project, complete the required load details, and then import your roof faces from Aurora one at a time.
- On CREATE PROJECT, review the pre-filled ADDRESS and NAME, add any other details you need, and click Add.
- On LOADS, complete the required fields: FAILURE CONSEQUENCE CLASS, DESIGN WORKING LIFE, and TERRAIN CATEGORY. K2 Base determines the wind and snow loads automatically from your location.
- Go to BUILDING. It becomes available once the required load fields are complete.
- Click IMPORT ROOF FROM AURORA. The number in parentheses is how many roof faces Aurora sent.
- In SELECT A ROOF TO IMPORT, click the roof face you want to import. The table shows the ROOF TYPE, FACE SHAPE, and FACE PITCH Aurora sent for each face.
- Select the ROOF TYPE, ROOF SHAPE, and ROOF COVERING, then click Next.
- Review the FASTENING METHOD and FASTENING GRID, then click Create a roof.
- Repeat the import for each remaining roof face.
Each roof you import appears in BUILDING with its dimensions and obstructions. K2 Base flags any fields it still needs from you, such as RAFTER SPACING. From there, continue planning your mounting system in K2 Base.
Tip: K2 Base shows projected roof dimensions in satellite view and actual roof dimensions in the 2D view.
What transfers to K2 Base
Aurora sends a one-time snapshot of your design:
- Your project address
- Roof faces, including roof type, face shape, and pitch
- Obstructions
Your panel layout doesn’t transfer, so you place modules in K2 Base. The integration only sends data from Aurora to K2 Base.
FAQ
I can’t find K2 Base in Aurora. How do I get it?
Aurora turns the integration on for each account and is rolling it out in stages. If K2 Base isn’t listed under Racking manufacturer, it isn’t on for your account yet. Please reach out to your Account Manager or Support to request early access.
Is this the same as the K2 Systems Racking Design App?
No. K2 Systems Racking Design App covers K2 Quote, a separate integration for US customers.
Can I get the K2 Base bill of materials in Aurora?
No. Your racking bill of materials stays in K2 Base.
If I change my design in Aurora, does K2 Base update?
No. Send the design to K2 Base again and import the updated roof faces. Changes you make in K2 Base don’t update your Aurora design either.
